If u arn't used to abusive story and child abuse, do not open this book!i felt so sorry for her! abused at the age of 4, uneducated and has nothing to do with it, lost her whole family because of her freakin' step father and, omg i cant continue...i liked it most when she became 14 and started to physically defend herself, that was my favorite part(from the part i read)i prefered the child called it on this one, cuz unlike Dave Pelzer, she didnt use any emotions at all; basically just discribingThis book made me ponder why I read books of such genre...I always have been fascinated by this type of story because of my childhood and what goes on in a persons mind on why they do these horrible things. I have yet to come to a conclusion of why I think such men are so hurtfull. I most likely never will. Anymore then they have to be sick in the head. Karen, or Shy as she came to be called was indeed a tragic soul that no one would believe or help. Everyone would ignore her bruises, STDs etc. The rape began at her young age of four years old.She was continually sodomized as well and sold to others by her evil stepfather. So, disturbing was her poor life, she finally snapped and almost committed suicide.Just Horrid.
Heartbreaking and gutwrenching. Very difficult to read and had I not known that this amazing woman had gone on to find a beautiful and wonderful life for herself, where she now fights for children just like her, I might not have been able to finish it...Not for the fainthearted.
I will never understand how a community could fail a child that cried so desperately for help. Not only did this book make me sad it also made me angry at those who failed her.As a child I always felt safe because I had my mom. I can't begine to imagine the amount of fear this girl went through being abused and not being able to depend on her mom for protection. I dont know why but at the moment i am really into reading terrible life stories of abuse, and this one is a story of peodophilia from the young girl from age 4 being raped by her step father while her own mother hated her. SHe was shared with the step fathers sick perverted friends and he also sold her out for days on the ships that docked locally and drugged her.
